#2: History of The Supreme Court of The United States

The Supreme Court is an inspiring branch of government that can check all other branches of government. Therefore, being nominated to the Supreme Court may be the highest honor in all the components of government. During High School, one of my favorite classes was in government, and my favorite unit was reviewing the power of the Supreme Court.

This video about the history of the Supreme Court served as a good reminder about how the Supreme Court operates, from picking which cases to take all the way to how the justices write their final opinions of the case. One of the most interesting points for me was how the Supreme Court picks cases based on what they see as a case that can affect the lives of all American citizens.

The Supreme Court is the most powerful branch of government globally, with the power to strike down unconstitutional actions by the executive or the legislative branch. This is why the Supreme Court is respected throughout the nation as the sole power for keeping the government in line. The Supreme Court serves the people by defining the constitution and preserving other branches of government from overstepping their bounds. As a student who wants to go to law school in the future, the power of the Supreme Court is inspiring as a body of officials meant to serve the United States citizens through the authority of a 200-year-old document.
